Seminyak vs Canggu: which should you choose?

Choose Seminyak for the polished, comfortable side of Bali — good restaurants, sunset beach clubs, spas and walkable streets. Choose Canggu for the younger, more laid-back version — surf, laptop cafés, and a scruffier, more energetic vibe. They're neighbours, about 20–40 minutes apart, and share a coastline.

Choose Seminyak if…

You want everything easy and refined: an all-day café, a spa, a west-facing sunset and a considered dinner, all within walking distance. It's Bali's original style strip and the most low-effort comfortable base.

Trade-off: it's denser and pricier than Canggu, with less of a surf-and-outdoors feel.

Choose Canggu if…

You want surf, co-working cafés, beach clubs and a younger crowd, and you don't mind a rougher, busier, more spread-out town. It's the hub for long-stay travellers and digital nomads.

Trade-off: more traffic, more construction, and beaches built for surfing and sunset drinks rather than swimming.

Which for how long?

Short, comfortable trip: Seminyak. Longer, active, café-and-surf stay: Canggu. Because they're so close, you can also base in one and visit the other for a day or a dinner.
