Bali itinerary: 5 days for a first trip
Five days is enough for one area done well, plus one or two deliberate day trips. It is not enough for every famous stop on the island. Keep one main base, add a driver day when it earns its place, and leave one flexible day for weather, traffic or the place you want to repeat.

Day 1: arrive and choose your pocket

Land, check in and stay within your area. Use the first evening to understand your base: where breakfast is, where sunset works, and how long short rides actually take.
Day 2: local rhythm

Do the version of Bali your base is good at: Canggu for surf, cafés and sunset; Ubud for rice fields and culture; Sanur for calm beach logistics; Uluwatu for cliffs and beach time.
Day 3: one driver-led day

Add one bigger day outside your base — Ubud from the coast, the Bukit from Canggu/Seminyak, or East Bali if you are already positioned well. Keep stops tight and sequenced.
Day 4: reset or repeat

Use this as a lower-friction day: spa, beach club, long lunch, shopping, or the guide/route you saved after learning your own pace. This is where the trip starts to feel personal instead of scheduled.
Day 5: easy final day

Stay close, book only what you can reach comfortably, and leave a real airport buffer. If you have a late flight, choose a final meal or spa on the airport side of your route.
Good to know
Is 5 days enough for Bali?
Yes for one base plus one or two day trips. It is too short for Ubud, Canggu, Uluwatu, Nusa Penida and East Bali in one comfortable trip.
Should I split hotels on a 5-day trip?
Usually no. One base is calmer. Split only if you strongly want two different paces, such as Ubud plus the coast.
What should I book ahead?
Book accommodation, airport transfer, any driver day, and the few meals or sunset spots that matter. Leave cafés and casual meals flexible.
